Product Roadmap
I'm going to keep this post up-to-date with the roadmap for the Panels app. I'm one developer so I have to be realistic with what I'm going to be able to get out the door, but this list will contain the features (in order) that I am planning to be working on. Let me know if you have any suggestions :-) Android Support - May (DONE)This one is a no-brainer. I get asked about this every time I post about Panels, so work has already begun porting this over to Android. My target completion date is end of April/early May. Infrastructure Update - June/July (DONE)This isn't a very user facing update, but it will help support some of the features that I've planned down the road. This will also help some power users who have many panels and may start feeling some sluggishness in the system. This is all about performance and polish, and I'm aiming to have this out by end of July Multi-Views (DONE)
This update allows one Panel to have multiple "Views", and allows a user to navigate between Views by pressing the appropriate button. This is all configurable via the Panel Editor, and allows for more complex workflows (Tabs, Folders, etc.) Multi-Tablet Support - TBDDo you wish you could set up multiple panels on multiple devices at the same time? Well this update will be for you. You'll be able to dig up all your old tablets, hook them up, and have a different panel displayed on each device, all controlling your program. I can envision having the main panel on an iPad next to you, a second smaller panel on your phone nearby, etc. This one is a pretty big update, and I'm very excited about it. This is all I have for now. These may change as new features are shown to be in higher demand, but this is the plan! Thanks to everyone using Panels, and let me know what you think please

Hey Carlos - do you have a status update for the Android version? Hey there, I'm a bit behind on that unfortunately. Ran into a couple of unforeseen issues when porting, but I do have the app in the hands of a few Alpha testers and I think the big issues have been resolved. I want to do a more thorough beta test before releasing. I'll be comfortable giving a more definitive date pretty soon, so stay tuned Thanks, Carlos

Carlos:
Just bought the panels app after getting frustrated with Quadro. So far it seems very promising, though I am wondering if there is any way to move or resize panel buttons? Tried the obvious such as ctrl, shift or alt, etc. Thanks in advance for your help

Tried the obvious such as ctrl, shift or alt, etc. Thanks in advance for your help Steve Hey Steve, I already answered the question in another place, but I figured I'd add it here as well in case anyone stumbles onto this post. Currently there's no way to resize a button once it's been made. You'd have to delete the grid element and re-add it. This is a definite limitation in the editor that I'm working quickly to address, since I know it's frustrating. Stay tuned for an update on that, as I'll definitely post this here when it's added. Thanks for your support! Panels is an active project and I will be expanding on the functionality often and regularly.

Version 1.1.4 of the Panels Desktop client has just been released! This update brings a couple of minor bug fixes, but more importantly - Allows users to reposition already created buttons in the Panel Editor. To move a button, first select the button, then Ctrl + Arrow Keys. - Allows users to resize already created buttons in the Panel Editor. Click "Resize" on the Properties pane to enter "Resize Mode" Select your new dimensions and the button will be resized. Also, the beta version of the Android App has been released, and can be found here play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Panels.PanelsAppIt's definitely in a Beta state at this moment, but I'd love to get some feedback if you'd like to help out! I've been using it on my Android tablet for some time and it looks like its pretty stable, but I could always use some more testing.

I haven't yet exported and looked at the source for a panel. Is it possible to change the URL of an image using javascript? Will it work on the app?

I haven't yet exported and looked at the source for a panel. Is it possible to change the URL of an image using javascript? Will it work on the app? So, the actual package that's created by the Panel Editor is minified, so I'm not sure how helpful that will be. I've been making the custom ones (like the Elite Dangerous panel) using some well known front-end development frameworks (like Angular, for example). If you're a developer, you can definitely check it out as it's open source github.com/CRodriguez25/EliteDangerousPanelI also have a getting started guide for handcrafting your own panels here (using html/javascript/etc.) panelsapp.freeforums.net/thread/3/developer-startedHope this helps with whatever you had in mind.

Please, please, please figure out the multi-panel/multi-tab thing. At the least, see if it's possible to work around it using html/javascript.

Please, please, please figure out the multi-panel/multi-tab thing. At the least, see if it's possible to work around it using html/javascript. You have great timing, Dan Panels Desktop Client v 1.2.0 has just been released! This update adds a couple of very nice quality of life features, along with the very highly requested ability to have multiple "Views" in one Panel. Quality Of Life Update For anyone who's created any reasonably complex panels, you'll know that it was kind of a pain to go back and forth between selecting a button, and then selecting an action on the bottom right menu. I've added some context menus to the buttons so that, when you right click them, you'll be able to perform your actions much more quickly. Views This is the big one. When you open up the Panel Editor, you should now see a "Panel Views" list on the left hand side. Every panel starts with a "DEFAULT" view (which can be renamed). You can add more views by clicking the "New View" button on the bottom of the list. Each view has its own set of buttons, in its own layout. Finally, every button is now able to "Redirect" to a different View in your Panel. You should see a "Redirects To View" dropdown in the button properties, as shown in the GIF below. Now, when you press this button on your tablet device, your view will change to the selected one. With this feature, you should be able to implement "Tabs", "Folders", or a number of other complex workflows in your Panels. This feature does not require an update to the iOS or Android app, and existing Panels will be migrated to the new "Multi-View" layout. Any existing panels you've created will be converted to a "Multi-View" panel with only one "Default View". You'll then be able to add new Views and edit them as you like. If you make no change to your existing Panel, it'll continue to work as it does now. Thanks again for your support, and I hope you like this feature!

Panels Desktop Client v 1.2.2 has just been released!
This isn't too big of an update, but it does make linking your Panel to an application a lot easier. Instead of having to type in the EXE location of every program, you can click the "Select Running Application" button to see a list of all running applications. From there, you can just select the application and link it this way.
Another added benefit of this is that, if you link ALL of your panels in this way, Panels Desktop Client will no longer ask you to run in Administrator mode. I know this has been a point of concern for a lot of users (rightfully so, I think) about granting an "unkown" 3rd party dev Admin Access. If you go and retroactively link your Panels this way, Panels Desktop will no longer ask you for Admin privileges when it starts up.
Thanks! Carlos

Panels Desktop Client v 1.2.3 has just been released!
Well...this really doesn't have any features. It just adds a big UPDATE button letting you know that, going forward, all new updates to the Panels Desktop application will be handled via the Microsoft Store. If you want to continue getting updates and features, you should
1. Back up your Panels (just in case) 2. Download the new Panels Desktop Client from the Microsoft Store (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/panels-custom-ui-builder/9p6m2p2jc4hp?activetab=pivot:overviewtab) 3. Reimport your Panels if needed 4. Uninstall the old "PanelsDesktop" application.
I know this may be a bit tedious, but there are some definite good reasons for doing this.
- New users don't have to download some shady setup.exe file from my website in order to install. All updates are apprpoved by Microsoft, so there's a better "trust" factor here. - Updates are handled much better this way. I currently only have one tiny "Update Server" located in the Western United States. Microsoft has update servers around the world. I know a lot of Panels users are in Europe, so this means that Updates will be way faster for you. - Less hassle (for me). I don't have to worry about handling an update server anymore, which gives me more time to work on the good stuff; getting new features out.
Thanks for understanding! - Carlos
